Zimbabwean student scores perfect 35 points at A-Level, begins medical training with cancer research goal
A student from rural Chirumanzu has scored the maximum 35 points in seven A-Level subjects and begun medical training, saying his goal is to contribute to cancer research.
Simeon Maganga achieved the perfect score in subjects including Mathematics, Science and Biology, according to reports published by _H Metro_. He is now studying to become a doctor.
Maganga said his rural background motivates his academic focus. “When people look down upon you, you feel challenged and want to prove them wrong,” he told the publication.
Despite being in the early stages of medical school, Maganga said he has launched a project analyzing cancer research articles and data. He said he is using his background in statistics to support the work, with the aim of contributing to efforts to treat the disease.
He also stated he intends to specialize in neurosurgery. Maganga said he received a scholarship from Delta Corporation to support his studies in Zimbabwe and may pursue further training abroad later.
The student said he faced ridicule from some peers who called him “mad” for his focus on academics.
He said managing pressure is key to maintaining mental health.
There are no independent public records from the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council or Delta Corporation confirming the score or scholarship in the information reviewed.
